Snooker: Muir pips Babat in final and caps it all with U-14 title

MUSSELBURGH'S Ross Muir took the under-14 title at the 2010 Lt Col Walter Rowley OBE Junior Star of the Future Festival at Pontin's World Snooker Centre in Prestatyn, Wales.

He started brightly against Adam Babat of Hampshire, making a 47 break in the first frame and taking the second convincingly before Babat pulled one back.

Muir, who had to hold his nerve in the semi-final against Blackpool's Jon Haslam , when he lost a 2-0 lead before winning the deciding frame, showed his cool again to take the fourth frame of the final and the title.

Glasgow 19-year-old Anthony McGill took the 15 to 20 year old age group title 4-1 victory over Jamie Clarke of Wales in his final.

McGill led from start to finish and secured the title with an excellent 75 break in the last frame. Earlier in the day McGill had whitewashed England's Sam Craigie in the semi-finals.

The tournament featured the top junior players from across the UK with 112 players in the 15-20 age group and 52 players in the under-14 age group.

As well as securing the titles, the two young Scots earned themselves lucrative sponsorship deals with Pontins.

McGill is also on the verge of a place on the World Main Tour.
