Snooker: Leslie leads way for Scots quartet in Sofia

Bonnyrigg snooker star Michael Leslie comfortably qualified for the last 32 of the European Under-21 Snooker Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, winning all five of his group stage matches.

Leslie, 18, looking to go one better after losing in the final last year, enjoyed 3-0 victories over Vergil Mavrodiev (Bulgaria), Simon Lichtenberg (Germany) and Andrei Orzan (Romania) and dropped only one frame in a 3-1 victory over Darryl Hill (Isle of Man), making breaks of 102, 89, 63, 58, 56, 51 and 50 in the process. Leslie then ensured that he would be one of the top eight seeds for the knockout stages, after winning 3-2 in his final group match against Jurian Heusdens (Belgium) in a hard-fought contest.

Alloa’s Eden Sharav has the highest break following a 128 break in a 3-0 victory over Daniel Kahout (Czech Republic) and has still to lose a frame in the tournament. Perth’s Scott Donaldson was also in good form making two century breaks in an impressive 3-2 victory over Shachar Ruberg (Israel) and tops his group with four wins out of four. Musselburgh’s Ross Muir, 16, ensured all four Scots made it through to the knockout stages with three wins out of four so far.
