Snooker: Leslie eases into Malta quarter-finals

MICHAEL LESLIE has qualified – with a game to spare – from his group for the quarter-finals of the European Under-17 Snooker championship at the Apple Snooker Club in Bugibba, Malta.

The 16-year-old Bonnyrigg cueman beat Kenny Seynaeve of Belgium 3-1 after starting off with a 51 break to win the first frame and following it up with a 39 break to go 2-0 up.

Leslie then lost out in the third on the pink before winning a tight fourth frame to secure his place in the last eight.

His compatriot, 15-year-old Scott Donaldson from Perth was in sparkling form during an excellent 3-1 victory against England's Keith Kinnersley, which included breaks of 101 and 69, as he too secured a quarter-final place with a game to spare.

If both players win their remaining group game, an all-Scottish final would still be a possibility.
