Snooker: Gallacher gallops to glory in EOS Pairs showdown

MICHAEL GALLACHER partnered Joe McGrath (Dundee) to win the East of Scotland Snooker Association's Pairs title last night.

The experienced pairing totally outplayed Ross Valence (22) and 16-year-old Lee Main, Gallacher and McGrath whitewashing their younger opponents in the five-frame final in the Matchroom at World of Snooker in Chesser. Gallacher also grabbed the highest break of the final, 69, in the third and final frame to clinch the title 3-0.

In a tentative start to the final, the older duo came from behind to take the first frame 61-54. Main appeared to be slightly overawed by the occasion but he settled down and looked to be on his way to running up a good break, but that broke down when he had scored 16.

Gallacher took control of the table and a break of 32 established a frame-winning league and he and McGrath used their experience to make it 2-0 with a score of 69-19. Valance was the stronger of the young duo but there was nothing he could do in the last frame of the final with Gallacher in impressive form in making a top-class break of 69.
