Snooker: Five Scots into last 32 in Malta

BONNYRIGG'S Michael Leslie and four of his fellow Scots are through to the last 32 of the European under-19 snooker championships in Malta after a very successful weekend.

Leslie made an 86 break in a 3-0 whitewash of Andre Gogola (Hungary) and, with one defeat from four matches, is guaranteed qualification.

Alloa's Eden Sharav made a 112 break in his 3-0 win over Dominik Scherubl (Austria) and he and Glasgow's Anthony McGill have 100 per cent records after four matches and are on course for a top seeding in the next round, although Sharav still has to play defending champion Luca Brecel of Belgium.

Like Leslie, Campbell Dunlop of Kilmarnock and Cumbernauld's Ross Higgins have only had one defeat and are safely through.

Rhys Clark of Stonehouse is still in contention after two wins out of four, while Kilmarnock's Martin Hamilton faces an uphill battle after only managing one win.
