Snooker: Dick faces defending champ in bid for glory

TWICE champion Stevie Dick of Edinburgh has a battle on his hands tonight when he takes on defending champion Eden Sharav of Alloa for a place in the last eight of the East of Scotland Snooker Championship being held at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange (7.30pm).

Whilst the Edinburgh cueman last won the title two years ago, his fast-improving opponent from Alloa is arguably one of Scotland's top prospects and will be a major obstacle for Dick if he is going to get his hands on the trophy for the third time.

Last season's finalist Robert Carlisle will be favourite to secure a place in the quarter finals when he plays Musselburgh's Greig Ritchie on Friday night, knowing a win could set-up a clash with former champion Ross Vallance who takes on Chris Carroll from Dundee.

Rising star Michael Leslie, of Bonnyrigg, safely negotiated victory against Scott Dunbar of Perth and will now play Edinburgh's John Williamson for a place in next week's quarter final round-up. Leslie also holds the highest break in the event so far this year after a 102 break in his opening round.

The last 16 matches start tonight, with one match each night through to next Monday. Spectators are welcome.
