Snedeker plans giveaway

THERE will be those who think that £7million for winning a golf tournament is simply obscene.

But American Ryder Cup newcomer Brandt Snedeker, the latest man to hit the jackpot, intends to give a lot of it to good causes after his Tour Championship and FedEx Cup double in Atlanta. Snedeker also did his bit to boost the home team’s confidence for this week’s match in Chicago, pushing Justin Rose into second place in the tournament and denying Rory McIlroy the £6m bonus from the end-of-season play-offs.

Asked what he intended to do with the money – the same that McIlroy has earned in a season of four wins, including a major, and nine other top-ten finishes – the 31-year-old from Nashville said: “It really hasn’t crossed my mind yet to be honest with you. “It’s going to be an unbelievable thing to go through this process of being financially secure for a long period of time and looking at what we can do to help other people out with that money. I’m not by any means a flashy guy. Of anybody that I know, I do not need $11m. So there are going to be things we can do to really help people. That’s the way I look at it.

“I’ve had a car for four and a half years and it’s got 24,000 miles on it. Why do I need a new car? I’ve got another little boy on the way here in a month. My life is about to change drastically, not because of this money, but because I’m going to have two kids for the first time in my life. That is my biggest thing in my life.”
