Smith resists some window shopping

Walter Smith is yet to be tempted to delve into the January transfer market and bolster his title-chasing Rangers squad.

Rangers, who meet Hibs in the SPL tomorrow night, have been linked with their former striker Nacho Novo, Derby's Kris Commons, FC Groningen's Tim Matavz and Plymouth forward Bradley Wright-Phillips.

But Smith, who saw top goalscorer Kenny Miller leave Glasgow for Turkish side Bursaspor last week, said speculation is a natural part of football.

The Rangers boss said: "We've been looking over things but so far nothing has come up that would interest us. Therefore, we are as we are just now.

"The January window is never an easy one in which to bring in any player.

"I would hope we can find something to our liking which is available to us in the next week or so. If not, we'll go with the group we've got."

Forward Steven Naismith believes new recruits could aid Rangers' bid to retain the SPL title.

He said: "It would freshen the place up a wee bit and maybe put a few boys on their toes."

Naismith, though, hopes Allan McGregor will stay at Ibrox amid speculation linking the goalkeeper with Arsenal.

He added: "I've seen lots of goalies around Europe and I would put Allan McGregor up with the best of them.

"This is just another transfer window and hopefully it's one we can get through and we can keep all our players and hopefully add a few more bodies."
