Slalom: Florence set for GB team

EDINBURGH'S Olympic silver medallist David Florence is certain to be named in the British team for next month's European Slalom Championships in Bratislava after winning all three selection races in Nottingham.

The Forth Canoe Club stalwart outpaced Mark Proctor in the C1 Canadian heats and looked even better when beating Dan Goddard in the semis.

Florence, 27, produced his quickest run in yesterday's final, clocking 86.69sec to finish 3.66sec ahead of Proctor.

He also teamed up with Rich Hounslow to collect three second places in the C2 event behind Etienne Stott and Aberdeen's Tim Baillie.

Bridge of Allan's 2004 Olympic silver medallist Campbell Walsh made a successful return from a recent attack of mumps and meningitis as he pipped Hounslow by just 0.01sec in yesterday's K1 kayak final.
