Six-week loan deal takes Sole south to London Scottish

Jamie Sole, the son of former Scotland captain David, has joined London Scottish from Edinburgh Accies on a six-week loan and will start for them at full-back in tomorrow’s English Championship match away to the Cornish Pirates.

Sole was a mainstay of the Edinburgh Accies’ first XV which gained promotion to the top flight last season and he has matured into a strong-running player in the 15 jersey with his kicking improving all the time.

He played the majority of Accies’ matches in the RBS Premier 1 between August and November, particularly impressing in a home draw against Glasgow Hawks, but he could not prevent them from missing out on a top-eight slot.

The form of the ex-Scotland students cap obviously alerted London Scottish head coach Simon Amor and Sole will now aim to show him what he can do in the next month and a half with the hope of earning a full-time contract in Richmond.

Edinburgh Accies’ head coach Simon Cross said: “Jamie heads south with our blessing and we hope he can do well down there. He really works hard at his game and is developing well so I believe he will fit in well.

“Edinburgh Accies have a great tradition of helping young talent push on to gain professional contracts and Jamie may well be the next one. If not then he will be able to come back to us and play for the second half of the season thanks to co-operation from Scottish Rugby.”

London Scottish currently sit ninth in the English Championship and Sole is joined in Sunday’s starting line-up by the likes of fellow Scots Matt Heeks and Willie Lipp and Argentina cap Augustin Gosio. Former Scotland under-20 captain Lewis Calder is on the bench.
