Six Nations: Young Scots offer hope ahead of Rome clash

SCOTLAND face an RBS Six Nations wooden spoon decider against Italy today in the hostile atmosphere of the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, but the nation’s Under-20s last night showed Andy Robinson’s side how it is done with a last-gasp 20-17 win over their hosts in Calvisono.

By beating Italy thanks to captain Harry Leonard’s late score, Peter Wright’s team avoided the dreaded ‘spoon’, and it is hoped it works out as a good omen for Scotland’s senior team, who head into their final fixture of this championship determined to win at the fifth attempt.

After putting his side through their paces in the Stadio Olimpico, a relaxed Robinson said he is confident of victory – if Scotland eradicate the errors that have cost them dearly so far.

“It’s all there for us,” said Robinson, who has kept faith with the players who lost to Ireland last weekend, with Nick de Luca coming in after his return to fitness. “The players have got the ability. They’ve shown in parts a lot of good things that they’ve done. It’s about delivering on the day. If we stop making those individual errors we’ll win the game.”
