Simpson warns against writing off Kingussie

SHINTY: Fort William striker Bryan Simpson has warned teams not to write off Kingussie despite Fort hammering shinty's champions 6-0 on Saturday.

Simpson was on the scoresheet as the Camanachd Cup winners ran amok against a young and much changed Kings side minus talisman Ronald Ross – manager Stephen Borthwick has vowed to blood youngsters this season and the team is clearly in transition.

James Clark (2), Gordie MacKinnon and John MacDonald were also on target in Kingussie's biggest defeat for years.

But Simpson reckons people shouldn't read too much into the result. "Even when we saw the Kingussie team on Saturday, we still knew we would have to be at our best to get a result," he said.

"We were very good and they maybe had an off day but they won't struggle. They will still take a lot of beating this season and they can never be written off. We know that to our cost. We have written them off for years and still they come back."

Speyside rivals Newtonmore held on to top spot with a 4-0 win over Inveraray.
