Shinty: £150k Hydro sponsorship is extended

SHINTY’S ruling Camanachd Association is celebrating a major sponsorship extension with power giant Scottish Hydro worth more than £150,000.

The partnership means Scottish Hydro continues its backing of the sport’s blue riband competition, the Camanachd Cup, for a further three years.

However, the company will also fund youth activities such as the Scottish Hydro Youth Development Camp and Youth Development Fund.

Announcing the deal yesterday in Perth, Camanachd Association communications director, Donald Stewart, said: “Scottish Hydro has shown the Camanachd Association and the sport itself huge support over the past five years, with the name ‘The Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup’ becoming renowned amongst the shinty community. It is great to know the partnership is continuing for the next three years.”

Sponsorship manager of Scottish Hydro, Jonny Petrie, said: “We are very proud to be associated with the game of shinty.”

The draw for the preliminary and first round of the competition was also made yesterday, with two ex-Premier League sides, Oban and Glenorchy, facing each other in the preliminary round on 7 April.
