Shinty: New boys Kilmallie stun neighbours

Scotland wing centre John Stewart ensured the first Lochaber derby for five years went Kilmallie's way in a shock 3-2 win over Fort William yesterday.

Few would have bet on the Caol outfit to get the better of their near neighbours.

However, a Stewart strike in the 68th minute sparked wild celebrations in that part of the town last night. Bryan Simpson and Gary Innes scored for Fort but Liam MacDonald and Fraser Massie netted for Kilmallie. Stewart's winner means it has been a solid start to life back in the top flight for Kilmallie, relegated in 2006.

Kyles remained top of the league with a fine 3-1 home win over Glenurquhart while Kingussie hammered Glenorchy 8-0 and Newtonmore drew 2-2 at Oban Camanachd.
