Shinty: McIntyre confident of cup joy for Fort William

Fort William manager Peter McIntyre believes the club is good enough to get back among the trophies this season after a rare barren year in 2011.

Since 2005, Fort have enjoyed a purple patch with their first league title and five Camanachd Cups in the cabinet.

However, last season was a low point with no silverware at An Aird and several leading figures of that victorious era retiring.

Nevertheless, Fort head to Argyll today to face Inveraray buoyed by a solid start to the campaign and McIntrye, who suffered with the rest during last year’s transitional woes, believes cups could once again be a possibility in Lochaber.

“I think, given the start we’ve had, that cups and being in with a shout in the league is realistic for us,” he said.

“We’ve lost four players with over 20 senior medals between them and it is hard to lose that experience. However, the young ones who have made the step up have done well so far. When we have our full team out, we are a match for anyone.”

McIntyre has once again teamed up with David Stafford as co-boss, bringing back the most successful managerial duo in the club’s history.
