Shinty: Kyles on a treble after first trophy

The Tighnabruaich outfit moved up several gears in the second half at Old Anniesland on Saturday to defeat  Inveraray 6-2 in the AJG Parcels Celtic Society Cup final.

The scoreline at the break was 2-2 but the blue, red and whites converted every chance that came their way in the second period and the result was never in any doubt.

They can now look foprward toe a Camanachd Cup clash with Kingussie next and, shortly after that, the semi-final of the Macaulay Cup against lower league Oban as they target a treble.

Scorer Dunky Kerr, who netted in 40 minutes, believes the side are finding rude form exactly at the right time. He said: “We are getting clear of injuries and suspensions now and the big games are coming thick and fast.”

“If we can keep the full squad together then the Camanachd Cup has to be the goal. We also have another important semi-final coming up so getting to these occasions is vital for us.

“In the second half on  Saturday we managed to take all our chances and that was the difference. “

He added: “Inveraray, themselves, admitted we were worthy winners of the cup. We are both similar in style so there is never usually too much between the sides.”

In the Premiership, Newtonmore slipped up with a 2-2 draw against Glen Urquhart.

That allowed Lovat, who defeated Lochaber 2-1, to edge closer to them.

If Allan MacRae’s men win their game in hand, they will be equal on points with the reigning champions.
