Shinty: Ally Ferguson calls time on Lochaber career

FORMER Scotland coach Ally Ferguson stepped down as manager of Lochaber on Saturday, hours after seeing his side almost shock Newtonmore.

The lower league side were five minutes away from a Macaulay Cup giant-killing feat against the Premier League leaders thanks to a Lachlan Campbell goal. However, Newtonmore struck back through youngster Evan Menzies before David Cheyne's extra-time double guaranteed 'More's passage 3-1.

Ferguson, who is resigning to concentrate on the expansion of his business, said:

"I have really been struggling to find the time that I want to give the job so I feel it is the right thing to do."

Inveraray began their defence of the Macaulay Cup with a 10-0 win over Oban Celtic.
