Selkirk 16 - 35 Currie: Currie find top gear after breakdown

THE rest of the season may be catch-up rugby time for champions Currie, but coach Ally Donaldson is now looking forward with relish to the visit of league leaders Boroughmuir on Saturday.

Currie overcame several obstacles on their way to victory at Philiphaugh.

The club bus broke down and delayed the start of the match for an hour, and when proceedings did get under way they suffered the loss of a first-minute try.

"We knew that it would be hard here and we were delighted to get a bonus point," Donaldson said. "We did not play as well in the second half as we did in the first, but I was pleased with the attitude and the confidence of the players.

"We will take a lot from that and I hope that we can get our season back on track."

Currie played with a passion and power to score four tries in the opening 40 minutes, two in the seven minutes before the break, and the Selkirk resurgence never materialised in the second half.

"I thought that we were better this week, but we need to stop leaking easy tries," said head coach Graham Marshall. "And Currie are a very good side."

Currie scored only once after the break thanks to solid Selkirk defence, but the Borderers have it all to do to challenge for a top eight position. Pro Lee Jones set up the opening try for Fraser Harkness, but the physicality of the opposing pack proved crucial. James Johnston (2), Mike Entwhistle, Ross Weston and Andy MacMahon scored the Currie tries, which were all converted, while David Cassidy, before he limped off, kicked the Selkirk goals.
