Second Division: Lions to the fore after toppling league leaders

Gary Bollan's Livingston side have adjusted to life quickly in the Second Division as the reigning Third Division Champions climbed to the to top after just four games as Forfar were defeated 2-0 at the Braidwood Motor Company Stadium.

The unbeaten Lions moved two points clear at the summit courtesy of Robbie Winters' close-range headed goal in the first half and Keaghan Jacobs' thumping drive in the second.

Bollan said: "We needed a strong performance against a good Forfar side and they gave me that. This was a great three points to pick up."

The defeat ended the Station Park side's bright start to their league campaign and manager Dick Campbell felt his team never got going, saying: "We were sluggish and did not give a good account of ourselves."

Brechin built on their midweek Co-operative Insurance Cup success over Dundee by defeating Alloa 3-1 at Glebe Park to move into second place. Callum Booth drilled home the first goal from the edge of the box and goal machine Rory McAllister put his side two up before David Gormley pulled a goal back, with the three goals coming in a nine-minute first-half spell.

McAllister made it four goals in two games when he robbed Mick Dunlop to shoot home with ten minutes remaining to complete a fine week for the Angus side.

Manger Kevin McGowne said: "We were a wee bit worried about this game being an anti-climax after the Dundee performance, so we are delighted to get the three points."

Alloa manager Allan Maitland said: "We were beaten by the better side."

Performance of the day was at New Bayview where East Fife hit Dumbarton for six without reply with on-loan Hibs youngster Kurtis Byrne hitting a hat-trick to leave the Sons without a point.

Lloyd Young opened the scoring after quarter of an hour and Byrne struck twice before half-time with Bobby Linn, Byrne again and then Robert Sloan all finding the net in the second 45 minutes.

Airdrie United won for the first time in the league with a 3-1 success at Stenhousemuir against a Warriors side that ended with only nine men. On-loan Dundee United midfielder Ryan McCord scored the first from a free-kick in the first half before the home side's Scott Fusco was dismissed for pulling back Tony Watt and Paul Lovering sent home the penalty, however the ten men dug deep and Alex Williams pulled a goal back.

Willie Lyle picked up his second booking and Scott Gemmill netted just before the end.

Peterhead drew 1-1 at Ayr United.
