Scottish students 3 - 56 Connacht ‘A’: Students taught lesson in heavy defeat

A NUMBER of Edinburgh-based players were powerless to prevent the Scottish Students rugby team going down to a heavy defeat against Connacht ‘A’ at the Murrayfield back pitches yesterday.

The home team lost out 56-3 to an Irish side packed full of full-time players and including three who have already played in the Heineken Cup this term.

Scottish Students head coach David Ross said: “It was a very tough day at the office for the guys, but it is good for players to be exposed to this quality of opposition as it shows them what they can a spire to.

“We have a lot of players who have plenty potential in this squad and I am sure they will bounce back positively from this loss in the new year when we meet up again for our other fixtures.”

Eleven members of the 22-man Scottish Students squad that was in action against the hugely impressive Irish outfit either study at a Capital university or college or play their club rugby in Edinburgh.

They included stand-off Dom Martin from Edinburgh University, who plays for the Howe of Fife club too, and second-row pairing Clarke Smith (Telford College/Watsonians) and Angus Graham (Heriot-Watt University/Edinburgh Accies).
