Scottish Cup: Minnows have their day as Sunnybank and Bo'ness stun league opposition

Sunnybank and Bo'ness United enjoyed shock victories in the second round of the Scottish Cup.

At Cliftonhill, Nicky Gordon's tenth-minute strike was enough to give the Aberdeen-based minnows a 1-0 win over Albion Rovers.

Meanwhile, Bo'ness are still on the road to Hampden after beating the national stadium's residents Queen's Park 2-1 at Newtown Park.

James Brough gave the visitors an early lead before veteran defender Derek Fleming equalised from the spot and Paul Shields buried a dramatic winner in the 75th minute.

At Borough Briggs, Elgin edged an eight-goal thriller against Brora Rangers. A Craig Gunn double and a Jason Crooks goal handed Elgin a three-goal lead before Andrew Neill pulled one back. Strikes from Paul Millar and Barry Wilson put Elgin out of sight before Ronnie Jones and Alexander MacLeod notched late consolations for the Highlanders.

Spartans ran out 3-0 winners away at Keith, with Chris Townsley, Alex King and Jack Besley netting.

In Ayrshire, Glasgow University were taught a painful lesson in an embarrassing 8-1 defeat at the hands of Beith. Stephen O'Keane, John Sheridan, Derek McCulloch, Joe Bradley, Martin McGarvey, John Craig, Andrew Reid and Kenny McLean all scored for Beith, while Ewan Rothnie pulled one back for the scholars.
