Scottish Cup: Brora Rangers set up Elgin City clash

BRORA Rangers earned a plum north derby tie against Elgin City after winning through 2-1 at home to Edinburgh University.

The draw has pitted the former Highland League foes together in a confrontation that will excite the Sutherland minnows.

The first-round replay ignited with Ally MacDonald striking home the opener from the penalty spot after 36 minutes.

The students' Mark Tait was red-carded after 58 minutes and Scott McKain struck the vital second ten minutes later.

Mark Gair mustered a replay for Edinburgh with two minutes left but Brora progressed.

Amateurs Golspie Sutherland triumphed 3-2 in the replay at Fort William to book their place in the next round.

Andy Martin struck for Golspie in the first minute but they trailed to goals from Iain MacLellan and Mike Ellis, before Donald Sutherland levelled before the break.

It fell to Stuart Thomson to seal victory from the penalty spot after 73 minutes.

Deveronvale trashed Highland League rivals Invberurie Locos 5-0 away from home with Scott Hendry striking a double.

Michele Lombardi, Mark Smith and Stephen Gauld wrapped up the win which pits Vale at home to Dalbeattie Star.

Nairn County were also convincing at the second time of asking, hammering visiting Rothes 4-0 to line up a clash with Cove Rangers.

Steven MacKay struck twice in the second half with Robbie Duncanson and Craig Campbell also chipping in.

A couple of southern outfits took some northern scalps as Girvan and St Cuthbert Wanderers beat Huntly 2-1 and Fraserburgh 3-1 respectively, while Preston Athletic eased past Newton Stewart 3-0 to set up a second-round meeting at Pennypit with former East of Scotland adversaries Annan Athletic.
