Scott would welcome new faces at Hibs

Hibs midfielder Martin Scott says the squad currently installed at Easter Road contains the sheer stubbornness to eke out results but believes any additions Colin Calderwood makes can only have a positive effect on the club's form next season.

Scott, who himself signed for Hibs three months ago, says the recent new crop of players have combined with those who began the campaign to create a potent mixture of hard work and resilience.

"With the players that were already here and the players (Calderwood] has brought in, it's a good blend now," said Scott. "Even when we don't perform particularly well, we've got that graft and the ability to grind out a result."

The Hibs manager took in games in England and Scotland over Good Friday and Saturday, Calderwood confirming that his scouting mission had been worthwhile. Scott, far from fearing for his place in the team as transfer deals are inevitably concluded over the coming weeks and months, insists that he will welcome the effect that growing competition for first team places should have on the squad.

"I'm not too sure what the manager's got in his mind or what he wants to do," admitted Scott. "I do know he was on a scouting mission, but competition for places can only be better for Hibs and only bring us on. I'm not sure how many will come in and how many will stay. There are players playing for contracts, and we'll continue to try and improve."

Scott started for Hibs in yesterday's home game against St Mirren and was named as the sponsors' man of the match. But the former Ross County man, 25, was disappointed in the team's performance against the SPL's second-bottom club.

"I thought we could have performed a little bit better," said Scott. "We've set ourselves some high standards now, since January, and we're a bit disappointed. But, a draw's probably a fair result."
