Scott Larkin denies Laura Murray place in history books

FORMER US college circuit player Scott Larkin came in late in a field of 84 to deny Scottish amateur international Laura Murray a historic win in yesterday's North-East Alliance at Murcar Links.

Larkin, a 23-year-old from Banchory who spent four years at the College of Charleston, recovered from a four-putt double-bogey 6 at the second to shoot seven birdies in a four-under-par 65 over the shorter winter course with temporary greens.

Until then, Murray's 66, in which she holed from off the green three times, had looked like making the Alford player the first female to win the top scratch prize in the long history of the organisation.

She plays off the men's tees and her +1 LGU handicap is adjusted to 4 for net scores alongside the men in the handicap sections.
