Scott Jamieson's rookie goal

Scott Jamieson returns to action on the European Tour in India tomorrow determined to continue his challenge for the circuit's rookie of the year award.

The 27-year-old from East Kilbride, who earned promotion from last season's Challenge Tour, lines up in the Avantha Masters in New Delhi with a renewed sense of confidence following a sixth-place finish in the Joburg Open in January.

Marc Warren was the last Scot to win the prized rookie of the year award in 2006 and Jamieson, who sits 55th on the current Race to Dubai rankings, has set his sights on emulating that success. "I want to win the rookie of the year, that's my aim for the season," said the former Scottish amateur No 1, whose closing 65 in Joburg kick-started his year. "I will probably have to win somewhere if I'm going to achieve that and it's not going to be easy.

"But Joburg was a great result and on the last day I beat everyone else's round by two shots. It has given me belief in myself and my ability.

"When I go into a tournament I always believe that if I play well I can hang in with the top players on the tour and that result has given me great confidence."
