Scott Jamieson finishes joint third in Indian Open

While Chowrasia successfully defended the title in style, winning by seven shots with an impressive 10-under-par 278 total on the demanding Gary Player-designed DLF Golf & Country Club in Delhi, Jamieson was understandably delighted to finish joint third in the Hero-sponsored event.

A closing 72 for a two-under aggregate came a week after he’d crashed out of contention with a final-round 78 in the Tshwane Open in South Africa, his positive reaction to that capitulation seeing him climb to 39th in the Race to Dubai after picking up a cheque for just over £80,000.

“It was a great week, especially after the disappointment of last Sunday,” said the 33-year-old Glaswegian of his best effort since tying for third in the Russian Open in July, 2014. “I think I took the positives from last week’s performance and carried them into this week, the only difference being I used last week’s experience to help me today.”

He added: “It was a brutal test of golf this week and your commitment to the shots was absolutely vital, something which maybe wasn’t a strong as it could have been last Sunday. But that’s golf, it’s a constant learning experience. I hadn’t been in that position for a long time and just need a little reacquainting.”

Chowrasia’s success saw the 38-year-old become the first Indian to successfully defend a European Tour title. “This is very special,” he said. “This is also one of the toughest courses I’ve ever played in my life – I was nervous on every single shot.”
