Scots stumble at the first hurdle in Spain

KRIS Nicol and Gordon Yates, the only two Scots to qualify for the knock-out stages of the Spanish Amateur championship, were ousted on the first day of matchplay at La Canada on the Costa del Sol.

North East Open champion Nicol had his challenge was ended by Spain’s Sebastian Garcia.

Scotland cap Yates was edged out on the final green by Denmark’s Rasmus Lykke-Kjedlsen.
