Scots share fifth spot

SCOTLAND are lying in a share of fifth after the opening round of the European Nations Cup in Spain.

Colville Park's Ross Kellett returned to form with a 69 at Copa Real Club de Golf in Sotogrande and was ably backed up by Philip McLean of Peterhead with a 70. A 75 from Troon Welbeck's Michael Stewart was the other counting score, meaning the 79 from Kris Nicol of Fraserburgh could be discounted.

On 214, the Scots are just three shots behind leaders France, the reigning world champions setting the pace just ahead of Spain, Austria and Ireland.

Defending champions England are in seventh place on 216, seven shots better than Wales.
