Scots make good progress in Spain

SCOTLAND moved up two places to third and have defending champions England in their sights at the halfway stage of the European Nations Cup in Spain.

For the second day running, Colville Park's Ross Kellett was the leading light for Scotland, following his opening 69 with a four-under-par 68 at Copa Real Club de Golf in Sotogrande. Scottish and South African amateur champion Michael Stewart and Kris Nicol both returned 73s to leave Philip McLean as the non-counter on day two.

The Scots are on 428, four shots behind England, who came storming back after finding themselves in seventh place after the opening round.

Splitting England and Scotland are hosts Spain on 425, with world champions France alongside Ireland in joint-fourth on 431.
