Scots eye place at T20 table

THE Saltires are keen to enter a team in England's domestic Twenty20 competition.

Cricket Scotland officials are already planning their response to recent developments at the ICC who are set to reduce the 50-over World Cup to just ten teams while increasing the T20 event to 16.

Scotland's head of performance Andy Tennant has called for increased participation in T20 at club, regional and international levels.

High on the agenda for the Scots is to investigate the possibility of entry into the FP T20 tournament south of the border.

Roddy Smith, Cricket Scotland's chief executive, said: "We are in an ongoing dialogue with our colleagues at the ECB. Clearly the ICC are placing a greater emphasis on Twenty20 cricket for the associate countries and we have to be ready for that. In an ideal world we would enter the T20 competition down south but we are not calling the shots.

"There was a feeling in England that there were too many games in their domestic T20 this season so it is unlikely we would be admitted in the present format. But we are certainly keen to get involved."

A fall back position could see the Saltires offer themselves to English counties for warm-up matches.
