Scotland's Gordon Reid through to Wimbledon wheelchair final

Scotland's Gordon Reid has reached the final of Wimbledon's first wheelchair singles competition.

He will now meet seventh ranked Swede Stefan Olsson on Sunday.

Reid, born in Glasgow, beat the second seeded Joachim Gerard of Belgian in the semi-final.

Gerard, who lost to Reid in the Australian Open final this year, was beaten in a two tight sets 7-6 (11-9), 6-4 at SW19.

Seeded No. 3, Reid’s run to the final has also included a victory over Nicholas Peifer, who alongside Stephane Houdet, beat Reid in the wheelchair doubles final in Australia.

Reid is already a double grand slam champion this year having won the singles in Melbourne in January and the wheelchair doubles at Roland Garros in May.

This is the first year Wimbledon has included wheelchair singles in its programme. The prize on offer for the winner is £25,000. The total prize pot for the Wimbledon wheelchair events is £200,000, the highest of any grand slam.
