Scotland's under-17 squad maintained their unbeaten run with a final day victory over England Reds at the Wellington Festival.

Following wins against England Blues - the Reds and Blues are effectively England's second and third teams - and France A this week, added to their success against the full-strength England under-17 side in Leeds earlier this month, head coach Davy Wilson was delighted with his young players.

He said: "It was a tremendous result and a great all-round performance from the team. We defended well as a team and attacked with pace and accuracy and didn't allow England to play.

"Looking back on the week, it's been a great experience for the boys to be immersed in such a rugby-oriented environment and a massive opportunity to see, for the first time, all the things that happen at this level such as analysis and strength and conditioning."

Scotland took control with two penalties from stand-off Ben Cooper inside 20 minutes before full-back Ruairidh Young sliced through the England defence to score between the posts, the try converted by Cooper.

With minutes to go before half-time, solid work from Neil Herron, a lineout at five metres and some effective recycled ball led to Ruairidh Young crossing for his second try in the corner, the conversion just going wide.

Three minutes into the second half, winger Damien Hoyland started a move which worked its way upfield through the hands of a host of his team-mates and back into his possession to cross the whitewash and make it 23-0.

A good break from scrum-half Ramsay Young five minutes later saw him take the ball 40 metres upfield before passing to centre Herron to score, the try converted by Cooper.

England pressed to get back into the game but 25 minutes into the second half a spilled balled by the hosts was retrieved by Hoyland and offloaded to lock Cameron Turner who claimed the Scots' fifth try and the final points of the game.
