Schools hockey: Watson’s girls win cup again

George Watson’s College girls have won the Under-18 Scottish Schools’ Cup Final for the third year in row at Peffermill in Edinburgh.

In the group stage, the defending champions beat Robert Gordon’s College 4-0 and drew 0-0 with both St Columba’s and Strathallan to make it into the last four.

In the semi-finals, an Ailsa Small goal from a penalty corner secured a narrow 1-0 win over Mary Erskine’s School and earned a place in the final against the High School.

Fourth year pupil Joanna Prentice who snatched the vital winning goal after a deflection three minutes from time.

Watson’s has won the Scottish Schools’ indoor, the Scottish Schools’ outdoor and the Under-18 East Knockout Championships.

Watson’s also reached the boys’ final of the Scottish Schools’ Cup – but lost out on penalties to Glasgow School of Sport.
