School’s fencing: Scots grab four medals in Jersey

CHLOE DICKSON (Glenwood High School), the Scottish Schools’ Under-16 champion and one of the youngest in the competition, helped Scotland achieve a terrific haul of four medals in the women’s foil at the Junior Commonwealth Championships in Jersey.

The championships are for under-20s and Bristol-based Scot Georgia Hannay and Dollar Academy FP pupil Ruth Clarke took the gold and silver individual in the women’s foil.

As a losing semi-finalist, Chloe completed the domination by taking a bronze alongside England’s Leah King. The three Scottish girls won gold in the team event.

Ruth, last year’s Over 16 Scottish Schools champion, has taken a year out before university and is currently based in Italy. Italian fencers are expected to medal at this year’s Olympic Games.
