Schools fencing: 11-year-old Scot wins silver

MURRAY Caughey, an 11-year-old from Loretto School, was part of a mass event at the IAPS (Independent Association of Preparatory Schools) Fencing Competition at Millfield School in Somerset and returned to Scotland with a treasured silver medal.

With competitors from over 30 schools, Caughey beat the top seed on his way to second place overall. Several of his rivals have already been named as GB fencing cadets.

“There were hundreds of competitors at this competition and it was a little scary at first,” he admitted. “However, I stayed focused and tried my very best.”
