Scenic setting for Loch Lomond School's triathlon

The Lomond School Adventure Challenge is a Triathlon open to all secondary schools in Scotland and is set in the stunning location of Loch Lomond Shores and Balloch Park. The Tri consists of a 2k Canadian canoe leg, a 4k mountain bike and a 3.2k run. The setting is spectacular, being held in the shadow of Ben Lomond and at the south end of Loch Lomond.

The event is open to all Scottish schools for pupils from S4-S6 2015-2016. Canoes and bikes will be provided.

The event will require a small amount of experience and is an extremely enjoyable challenge for any reasonably fit young person with a positive attitude.

This year Lomond School has joined forces with Tiso, the Great Outdoor Specialists who will be supporting the event with fabulous prizes and giveaways. There will be a team trophy as well as individual awards.

Chris Tiso, chief executive of Tiso, says “We are delighted to be sponsoring The Lomond School Adventure Challenge. These kind of events are an excellent way of getting kids excited about the great outdoors.

“We have good links with Lomond School. Charlotte Dobson a former pupil of Lomond and their ambassador for sailing, has recently been chosen as part of the RYA Olympic squad that will be heading to Rio in August.”

In 2014 the prize winners of the Lomond Challenge were from Lomond School, Madras College, Loretto and George Heriot’s School.

Principal Johanna Urquhart says “We are very excited to be launching the Lomond School Adventure Challenge. It’s truly a magical part of the loch with an incredible scenic backdrop and offers a very challenging course. We think it will be a fantastic way to finish this academic year for all the schools taking part. “

Ryan Morrison, an S5 pupil at Lomond School, said: “I’m really looking forward to The Challenge. The loch is a really amazing place to canoe, especially in June when we would hope for nice flat water in which we can test our capability working as a team.

“I think the hill up to the castle is going to be tricky. It’s some climb to the top, but it’s short so manageable.

“It’s going to be a great day and a fun way to end the  summer term.”
