Sasa Papac signs on at Rangers as he chases ten trophies

Sasa Papac signed a one-year contract extension at Rangers yesterday, 48 hours after lifting the SPL title for the third year in a row, and says he is confident the Ibrox club will continue to accumulate silverware next season.

Papac's current deal was set to expire this summer but the 31-year-old left-back has agreed a new 12-month deal to be part of the new era at Ibrox under manager Ally McCoist - successor to Walter Smith - and owner Craig Whyte.

"I am excited about the new season and confident we can do well because Ally has learned from the best manager in Walter," said Papac. "I have no doubt we will be ready to fight for more trophies next season."

The Bosnian international moved to Rangers at the start of the 2006/07 season and has become an integral member of the side which won a third successive SPL title this season in Smith's last campaign as manager.

Papac was signed from FK Austria five years ago, along with Filip Sebo and Libor Sionko and is the only signing made by Paul Le Guen, Smith's predecessor as manager, still at Ibrox.

He made his 200th appearance for Rangers in the 5-1 win at Kilmarnock which secured the Clydesdale Bank Premier League title, his eighth major honour since moving to Ibrox.

Papac added: "It will be a pleasure to play for another year with Rangers, I'm so happy.

"I always hoped to stay and I never spoke with another club. Rangers is very special to me and it is a club I will support for the rest of my life.

"With a couple of new faces in our squad and the fans behind us we can build on our recent achievements.

"Right now I'm looking forward to a holiday but I can say that I am ready to fight for next season and, having won eight trophies already, I would like to get to ten."
