Sarah Beaney Cup: Cougars seek shock triumph

IN TERMS of dominance, few teams in Scotland can match Murrayfield Wanderers as they bid today to claim a staggering ninth Scottish Cup success.

The top teams in Scottish women’s rugby, Wanderers and Royal High Corstorphine Cougars, will contest the Sarah Beaney Cup, a popular Wanderers player who died at a young age.

When the teams last met earlier this month it was a closer affair than usual and Cougars lock Sarah Paterson said: “We’ve been training hard so we’re up for a good game.

“We have lost twice to Wandies and want to get the better deal this time. We met them a couple of weeks ago in a really good game. We lost by a try, but we felt as a team that we worked really well and were pleased with our performance, so we feel we can lift it this weekend and bring home the cup.”

Wanderers hooker Sarah Quick said: “Our season has been going really well and we haven’t lost a game yet, but the last match against Royal High was a toughly-contested match.”

The women’s matches take place on the back pitches and kick-off the day at 11am with Stirling County taking on Cartha Queen’s Park before Hillhead/Jordanhill face Aberdeenshire Quines in the Plate Final at 1pm and Wanderers and RHC clash in the big match at 3pm.
