Sandy Scott sets sights on becoming Ryder Cup player after 'amazing ascent'

Inverness man believes Adare Manor appearance is even a possibility as a PGA Tour card holder

New PGA Tour card holder Sandy Scott has his sights set on becoming a Ryder Cup player - even as early as next year’s centenary edition at Adare Manor.

On the back of landing a brace of two wins in quick succession on the Korn Ferry Tour to finish second on the points list, Scott will be flying the Saltire along with Bob MacIntyre on the PGA Tour in 2027.

The Inverness man has also joined MacIntyre in the top 100 in the Official World Golf Ranking, with Scott currently sitting 88th in the global standings.

Speaking to the Sliced Podcast, Scott said: “Yeah, it’s been an amazing ascent up the rankings over the last few weeks.

“I looked at the rankings after that stretch of golf (finishing 4th-2nd-1st-1st) and I was quite amazed and it felt very surreal to be in the position that I was in.

“You know, being in the top 100 in the world kind of makes you think I am on the cusp of major championships, elevated events and the Ryder Cup. There are guys who have played Ryder Cups not far from the world ranking that I am currently at.

“So, you know, to kind of realise that sitting in that space has been kind of cool and that’s a great motivator for me.”

Scott represented Great Britain & Ireland in the Walker Cup and also played against the US in the Palmer Cup during his spell at Texas Tech. His big goal now is a Ryder Cup appearance for Europe.

“The Ryder Cup is absolutely something I want to do and I would love to play in the Ryder Cup this coming year,” he added.

“I think it is achievable. I think that I am now on a platform that would allow me to continue rising up the rankings with good golf so, yeah, that would be an amazing thing.”
