Salford 16 - 68 Warrington: Feast of tries as Wolves hit top spot

LEE Briers scored his 100th career try as Warrington thrashed Salford to move top of the Super League.

The long-serving stand-off's effort was just one of 12 Wolves tries as Tony Smith's men produced a devastating display in the third Magic Weekend match.

Richie Myler touched down twice against his former club while Chris Hicks also grabbed a double and Chris Riley went joint top of the leading scorers' chart with his 15th of the campaign.

Ben Westwood kicked six goals from eight attempts as the ruthless Wolves gave the lacklustre Reds little respite.

Warrington's performance was a clear statement of their title ambitions and turned up the pressure on Wigan, who face a tough match against Huddersfield today.

Warrington went into the game knowing victory by 25 clear points would take them above the Warriors to the top of the table.

And their determination to do so was soon evident as they went ahead within two minutes.

Earlier in the day, Harlequins continued their Super League revival with a convincing 25-8 victory over injury-hit Hull.

Chad Randall, Will Sharp, Luke Dorn, on-loan Warrington winger Kevin Penny and Luke Gale all touched down as Quins secured back-to-back victories following last week's stunning defeat of Wigan.

The second match of the Magic Weekend proved a dismal affair for Hull who, missing a clutch of key players, managed only late replies through Danny Houghton and Tom Briscoe.
