Sailing: Ruaraidh Scott leads challenge for Series Trophy

RUARAIDH Scott heads the challenge of past winners of the overall Scottish Series Trophy seeking to land the top award at the Brewin Dolphin Scottish Series regatta again.

Scott, who was brought up sailing on Loch Fyne has won all of his races in the Sportsboat 1 class after taking first gun three times yesterday. In the showcase IRC fleet, IRC 1, the Cork crew on Anthony O'Leary's Antix posted two wins yesterday to extend their overall lead to seven points over the Clyde's three times Scottish Series Trophy winning Jonathan Anderson on Playing FTSE.

John Corson's IRC Class 4 leading Salamander XX are also contenders. They had a blip on Saturday when the wind died away completely and left them stranded for two hours near the windward mark. Their eighth which resulted is an allowable discard and so they now count five race wins from six starts to ensure that this could be the veteran Clyde owner-skipper Corson's first ever Scottish Series Trophy win this season, if they can return the same level of winning consistency into today's last two scheduled races.

In the RS Elite class of one design day keelboats, Shirley Robertson, the double Olympic gold medal winning event ambassador, steered Shaun Maclean's elixir to three wins to lead in the class.
