Sahara success No 3 for Salvado

SOME people are just gluttons for punishment, aren't they?

Take Jon Salvado, for example. The Spaniard has just won the tenth Sahara Marathon for the third time. The 43-year-old from Bilbao crossed the finish line at Smara Refugee Camp in Algeria in a time of two hours 42 minutes and 40 seconds. Salvado finished ahead of 800 entries from 28 countries who braved conditions at the extraordinary event which takes place through the deserts of western Algeria, between three refugee camps. The camps house around 200,000 Saharawi people, exiled from their Western Sahara homeland since 1975.
