Ryder says sorry

New Zealand batsman Jesse Ryder has apologised after being fined following his admission to a serious misconduct charge.

The charge stemmed from an incident at a hotel when Ryder, who was ruled out of the current tour to Sri Lanka with an elbow injury, was participating in an indoor cricket competition.

In a statement by Ryder to New Zealand Cricket, he wrote: "I accept that being intoxicated and rowdy during the night put me in a position where I put New Zealand Cricket and my own reputation at risk and I accept this is not tolerable.

"I have apologised to the hotel for my behaviour and I have put a lot of time into working out a plan to prevent me being in this position again."

New Zealand Cricket expect Ryder to be available for selection for the tour to Bangladesh in September once he returns to full fitness.
