The Glasgow Warriors forward was suspended by the Scottish Rugby Union earlier this week after being convicted of assaulting two men, including a fellow rugby player, during a Halloween night out in October 2013.

Wilson, who has won nine Scotland caps, was recently left out of Vern Cotter’s squad for the RBS Six Nations, which begins on 7 February when the Scots play France in Paris.

An SRU statement read: “At today’s meeting of the Scottish Rugby Board the recent trial of several Glasgow Warriors players was discussed.

“As a result Scottish Rugby will be instigating a disciplinary hearing, with its employee, Ryan Wilson in the early part of next week.

“As previously stated, Ryan Grant and Rory Hughes have returned to their club and are available for selection by Glasgow Warriors and Scotland respectively. No further comment will be made by Scottish Rugby until the disciplinary process has been concluded.”

Wilson, 25, was fined at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Tuesday for assaulting two men, including Glasgow Hawks player Ally Maclay, in a takeaway shop in the west end of the city. Charges against Grant and Hughes were not proven.

Meanwhile, Scotland have been given an indication of the personnel they are likely to face in their forthcoming Six Nations opener after opponents France unveiled the 23 players who will be excused club duty this weekend. Head coach Philippe Saint-Andre this week stepped up preparations for the Stade de France meeting when he gathered a 31-man squad for a training camp in Canet-en-Roussillon.

Saint-Andre has now whittled down that pool to 23 players, who, under the rules of the French Rugby Federation, will be “protected” from having to play for their clubs in the Top 14 this weekend.

Scotland have still been left guessing to a certain extent, however, after Saint-Andre named a lop-sided selection of 14 forwards and just nine backs.

Saint-Andre said: “With this list, we wanted to protect 22 players, and Rabah Slimani is suspended for the Top 14 this weekend.

“There are 14 forwards and nine backs because a lot of the players in the backs needed game time and were therefore left available to clubs.”

Unsurprisingly, the list of players who will not play this weekend includes the likes of Wesley Fofana, Yoann Huget, Scott Spedding, Nicolas Mas,  Pascal Pape, Camille Lopez and skipper Thierry Dusautoir.
