Runner-up Gordon Brand up to sixth in Europe

GORDON Brand Jnr climbed to sixth place on the European Senior Tour Order of Merit after chasing home Gary Wolstenholme as the Englishman completed a wire-to-wire victory at the Casa Serena Open in the Czech Republic.

Brand Jnr's closing 68 gave him a ten-under-par total of 203, three behind Wolsten-holme after he clinched his maiden title with a 67.

The win earned Wolstenholme a e90,000 first prize and secured his playing rights on the European Senior circuit for the next two seasons.

"It's a dream come true to have done what I have in the space of two events," said the 50-year-old. "To come out of the blocks so quickly is extraordinary.

"I didn't really know what to expect today and I knew that Gordon in particular would really come at me because he is a fierce competitor.

"I just did what I always do. I am a bit of a grinder, a bit of a golfing Steve Davis in the sense that it is never really spectacular but I get the job done."

Wolstenholme's 13th place on the Order of Merit, with earnings of e109,181, is a phenomenal achievement in two events.

Brand's fellow Scot Andrew Oldcorn finished joint ninth after rounds of 72, 66 and 72 gave him a score of three-under 210. Martin Gray was two strokes further behind after a final 67.
