Rugy: Morgan condemn Musselburgh to National League One

Musselburgh will play their rugby in National League Division One next season after Morgan Academy beat Dalziel 30-19 to seal the East Lothian outfit's relegation from Premiership Division Three.

It had been a tense couple of weeks since 'Burgh completed their league programme with a thumping win over Howe of Fife and they sat precariously above Morgan, who had three games in hand. Now two successive wins have moved the Dundonian side to eighth place in the table and condemned the Stoneyhill men to the drop.

Currie cemented second spot in the Premiership A table with an impressive 41-12 win at Ayr.

First-half tries by Finlay Gillies, James Johnstone and skipper Andy Adam plus a conversion by Hayden Abercrombie eased the Malleny Park men into a 17-5 lead at the interval. In the second period, further scores from Stu Simonsen, Mike Entwhistle and Andrew Turnbull completed the job, with Abercrombie contributing the remaining points by kicking all three conversions and a penalty. The result completed an unbeaten run by Currie since the league split in November.

Haddington's season edged towards a conclusion when they travelled to meet Division Three champions-elect Whitecraigs. The Neilson Park men, who will finally bring the curtain down on their campaign this weekend with a home fixture against Dalziel, had tries from Laurence Lappin, Euan Herkes and Ryan Alderman, who also kicked the other points in a 43-19 loss.
