Rugby: Youngsters aiming high

CURRIE and Boroughmuir rugby youngsters will be looking to draw on previous club achievements when contesting, respectively, Scottish under-15 and under-16 finals at Murrayfield on Sunday, writes BILL LOTHIAN.

Currie, captained by centre Robbie Wilson, face West of Scotland, knowing their under-18s and seniors have both reached recent national finals while a previous under-15 side also disputed the trophy.

Many of the current crop, coached by Mike McWilliam, have been attached to the club since aged six and have beaten North Berwick, Highland, Hawick and Deeside to reach this stage.

Two years ago, Boroughmuir, who face Stirling County, triumphed in the under-16s and skipper Rory Stewart's team includes five players newly-selected for an Edinburgh representative team – Alex Webb, Joe Jones, Alastair Fraser, Lewis Robinson and Damien Hoyland.

Boroughmuir's 14-7 semi-final win over West was their most comfortable and they have been pushed all the way by Haddington, Clackmannan, Marr and GHA.
