The match was a personal triumph for Watson’s fleet-footed winger Ben Robbins, who bagged a hat-trick of tries. However, Brown insisted it was far from a one-man show, saying: “Ben is a big strong runner but the inside backs all did well to create the space for him. It was a good collective team effort.
“One of our game plans was to go on the inside channels and create space outside. They defended that in the second half quite well but in the first half when it worked it was really effective.”

Hide AdThe Capital side were in charge by the interval, which they reached with a 26-0 advantage after Robbins touched down twice, while Dugald Berezford and Fraser McMillan also crossed the whitewash and Adam Hastings slotted three conversions. And they continued to pile on the pain for Dollar, who nevertheless battled throughout the second half and limited Watson’s to two additional scores – Robbins taking his tally to three and stand-off Callum Young claiming the last of six tries for Watson’s, while Hastings booted one conversion.
“Full marks to Dollar, they came back at us in the second half and really worked us hard,” added Brown. “We took our chances well. I’m delighted for the boys because they have really worked very hard.”
Meanwhile, the Watson’s captain and No. 8 Alastair Miller pointed to the contribution of the pack towards a well-executed triumph: “We knew they would be a good side. We knew we had to get our forwards going and we did that really well.”
