Rugby: Wanderers hang on for crucial victory as Langholm fail with last kick

Murrayfield Wanderers' match against Langholm in National One went right down to the wire with the Capital side clinging on for a vital win.

Following tries by John Lyons, Nigel Barker and Peter Walker, Wanderers were leading 25-19 going into the final stages. With the last play of the game the Borderers scored a try, but they could not convert and the hosts won 25-24.

It was their second win of the season and puts them tenth in the table.

Meanwhile, a depleted Lasswade had to dig deep to see off Livingston at Hawthornden.

With five or six regulars missing the Midlothian men put trust in some of their youngsters and they delivered in the 22-15 win.

However the key player was experienced prop Dale Robertson who bagged two tries and was named man of the match.

Lasswade now sit joint top with Greenock Wanderers and hope to have a couple of key team members back for the trip to Peffermill to take on Edinburgh University this coming weekend.

It promises to be a cracking fixture after the students got their second win of the season, 28-6 at Linlithgow on Saturday.

RHC Cougars drew 14-14 with East Kilbride.

North Berwick and Preston Lodge are both putting pressure on the National Three leaders after wins on Saturday.

Forrester were put to the sword 60-26 at North Berwick, while PL won 20-18 at Hawick Linden.

Ross High lost 66-13 at Marr and are still rooted to the bottom of the table.
