Tim Visser: ‘I don’t know when I will be back’
The prolific finisher suffered a fractured fibula and ligament damage in a RaboDirect PRO12 match against Treviso at the end of October and initially hoped to recover in time for the Six Nations. But that turned out to be too ambitious a prognosis and he is now resigned to the fact that he may not play for Scotland at all during the normal 2013-14 season.
“I don’t know exactly when I will be back, to be honest,” he said. “I’ve seen the consultant today and everything seems to have healed really well, and I can now start loading the leg, which means doing squats, weights and jogging again.

From a realistic point of view I’m hoping for five weeks and so it would be great to be able to be fit and able to play for Edinburgh next month, but some physios have talked of eight weeks and I’ve heard them mention four weeks, so I don’t really know.”
Visser was fit enough yesterday to oversee a mock training session for journalists organised by Scotland team partner Ginger Grouse, the sponsor of the Scotsman Rugby Show, alongside Scotland teammate Alasdair Dickinson.
He added: “Being back able to play is one thing, but then I have to get match fit and be playing well before I can be considered for international rugby. To miss all three games in the autumn and now likely to miss most of the Six Nations, if not all of it, was not great timing, but the important thing for me is to get this injury right. I’m only 26 and halfway through my career and so I don’t want to rush things.”
